Nick Smith is Public Affairs Director for the American Forest Resource Council, a trade association representing logging and wood products manufacturing operations in five Western States. In 2013, Nick founded Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities, a non-profit grassroots organization that advocates for better management of our federally-owned forests. He has also provided communications services to various timber industry associations including the Federal Forest Resource Coalition, American Loggers Council, Associated California Loggers and Associated Oregon Loggers. He’s an active member of the Oregon Society of American Foresters and served as chair of its Communications Committee.

Prior to joining the timber industry, Nick worked 10 years in the Oregon Legislature, serving two State Representatives and four House Republican Leaders. He was Communications Director for the Oregon House Republicans from 2005 to 2013, and was Executive Director of the caucus’ campaign organization for the 2010 and 2012 election cycles.

Nick earned a Master of Public Administration degree from Portland State University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from California State University, Chico. Nick lives in Sherwood with his wife and three children.
